MLK Dedication Weekend Registration


For those making travel plans for the MLK Dedication Weekend (August 26-28, 2011), take a look at this brochure posted for the membership -- click here. Two deadlines exist:  early, 7.1.11; and late,8.5.11 – limited space…)

For those who register for the national convention in Chicago, there will be a discounted rate of $180 for graduate brothers and $100 for college brothers; otherwise the fee will be $475. Special souvenirs will reserved.

This package permits entrance at a Thursday evening social at 7P. The package will include entry to a private ceremony at the Memorial, Friday morning (Alpha attire of black suit, gold tie); the MLK luncheon, at noon, and a MLK white-tie tribute at Constitution Hall that evening (black tie will be accepted). A private reception will follow after the gala).  




Saturday events will be hosted all day by the MLK National Memorial Foundation.

The MLK Memorial Dedication will be at 10A on Sunday, the 48th anniversary of King's "Dream" speech.  (Brothers are asked to secure gold blazers, black tie and slacks. Click on link – these may go fast!) The location is adjacent to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. A public concert will follow on the National Mall at 2P.


Mayflower Renaissance




Separate hotel arrangements are available at the host hotel, the Mayflower Renaissance. It is a 4-diamond luxury hotel labeled Washington, DC's "Second Best Address". Its Grand Ballroom has served as the backdrop for every Presidential Inaugural Ball from Coolidge through Reagan.  Use the designated conference code found at the site.
re registration: Spouses will be charged full rate of $475; a youth rate at $125 is available for those ages 6-17. Separate tickets are available by registered brothers, at $150 – for the Friday evening gala. (Youth registration does not include gala tickets.)

The Memorial will occupy the northeast corner of the Tidal Basin and will convey three themes that were central throughout Dr. King’s life – democracy, justice, and hope. The centerpiece of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial will be the “Stone of Hope”, a 30-foot statue of Dr. King, with a wall that will be inscribed with excerpts of his sermons and public addresses to serve as living testaments of his vision of America.It will be the first major memorial along the National Mall to be dedicated to an African-American, and to a non-president.
