2008 Call -- 35th Annual Conference, Wilberforce, OH
After the Fraternity was established in 1906, four years later it was established in Ohio. The Ohio relationship with Alpha Phi Alpha began with a letter received October 6, 1910 by then General Secretary Simeon Saunders Booker. On January 13, 1911, the first College Chapter --Kappa -- joined the fraternal fold and was seated at Ohio State University. From that year and every decade since, Alpha Brothers nurtured here have made and changed history.
The first Alumni Chapter to be chartered in Ohio was Theta Lambda on 12/23/1921. The District of Ohio was formed in 1973. Currently, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., maintains 18 collegiate chapters -- located at public and private colleges and universities, and eight alumni chapters in major cities throughout the State of Ohio.
District activities include Brotherhood, Leadership, Convention, and Service projects such as the Project Alpha/March of Dimes, Go to High School, Go to College, Voteless People is a Hopeless People, the MLK Memorial Project, Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters; programming, among others. Annually, the District sponsors a Conference in the Fall, featuring its Alpha Legends, and a Leadership Retreat in the late Summer.
