MLK OBSERVANCE -- 2012

The legislative branch of the United States of America took over 15 years to formally accept the day we observe as a tribute to Bro. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., (Omega Chapter). Steve Wonder's song, "Happy Birthday" reminds us of the termerity of an infamous representative on record for stating that we will not be "bullied" into making MLK Day into law....

His speech, We shall overcome is telling in its strength and hope for people of color to continue to act courageaously in the face of denigration. The recent release of two movies, "The Help" and "Red Tails," provide some context for the historical documentation of offenses to our heritage's and the struggle cursory to the civil rights movement.

Take time to read, watch and listen to reference the links attached.... Remember, celebrate and act--as distinguished representatives of fighters who survive, and not just annually--on the third Monday of January.

WE REMEMBER -- Bro. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Artwork by Bro. Larry W
Today, we reflect on the memory and the achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The night Dr. King gave his final speech he said, “I'm delighted to see each of you here tonight in spite of a storm warning. You reveal that you are determined to go on anyhow.”

“I See the Promised Land,” was given at his last public appearance in Memphis, Tennessee, at Mason Temple. King was in Memphis to support a strike by garbage workers.

The following evening, at 6:01 p.m., Bro. King was assassinated.

Bro. R. S. Lewis, now 91, who embalmed and prepared Bro. King's body. (Bro. Lewis marks 72 years in the Fraternity.) This opportunity was in preparation for a fraternal documentary that will be released later this year.

We look forward to the testament of Bro. Dr. King’s legacy in August. Get your blazers!  More information about this at the jump.

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY -- 25th Anniversary

Happy Birthday, to a great man...

It is hopeful that many brothers will be able to observe and honor Omega Chapter Brother Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on the national day of commemoration this year.

Dr. King is the fourth person from the left. He was initiated at Sigma Chapter , Boston Metro chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, while he was a graduate student at Boston University

This Monday is a day to collectively remember the sacrifices and struggles of the Black race in America.

We fortunately found a drum major for justice with Bro. King.
