OHIO'S 38th DISTRICT CONFERENCE -- Informal Report

 

Ohio's 38th District Conference was hosted by Bro. Dr. Willis Lonzer, Ohio District Director and Bro. Aaron Stokes, Ohio Assistant District Director. Members of the Ohio District Team, including staff and area directors, were present including immediate past Ohio ADD, Bro. Frederick Cox.

Chapter Hosts for the event were Delta Alpha Lambda (DAL) and Pi Chapter of Cleveland, OH.Daytime events were hosted on the campus of Cleveland State University, in the Cleveland Playhouse district. Evening entertainments were hosted at the host hotel, the Wyndham at Playhouse Square, the CSU campus, as well as the Tavos and Peabodies clubs.

Conference activities were lead by District's Convention Chair, Bro. Larry McCriminger. His team coordinated nearly two full days of the new extensive IMDP training, as led by once of Alpha's Master Trainers, Bro. Andra Ward.  The two Business Sessions were full and included the election of the next Ohio directors.

Bro. Cox, now serving as the Assistant Midwest Regional Vice-President, introduced Bro. Dr. Elgie Sims, Midwestern Regional Vice President. Bro. Sims's message to the Ohio District was delivered via satellite.  Just a note: North Carolina's District Conference was held concurrently with Ohio's.

The Alpha fellowship meal was conducted in the CSU Faculty Diningroom, the home to the house of DAL.  Bro. Eloy Vasquez, chapter president, was present to offer greetings and hospitality on several occasions. 


Competitions took place during the course of the weekend, that started out wet and cold, but became nice and sunny by week's end.

It is appropriate to recognize several people that were congratulated by the District Director Lonzer. 

With a healthy competition for both offices, delegates, from all areas of the state, voted and presented District Director Elect, Bro. Brandon Tucker, current Executive Director, and his Assistant District Director Elect, Bro. Terrell Knight.  They will be  installed at April's 2012 Midwestern Region Conference.

Ohio's District Competition Winners include the following:  

• Delta Upsilon, College Chapter of the Year
• Delta Alpha Lambda, Alumni Chapter of the Year
• Bro. Stefon Towler, College Brother with the Highest GPA
• Bro. Marcus Allen, T, College Brother of the Year
• Bro. Calvin Davis, DU, Belford V. Bedford Oratorical Contest
• Ohio Miss Black and Gold, Miss Divia Ware, representing Xi chapter.

Feel free to observe some of the participants in action via the slideshow. Several chapter spresented their campus winners for the District Miss Black and Gold Pageant and one chapter entered the Step Show Competition that featured DAL's Alpha Esquire step team.
