Alpha's history book points out that Mr. Charles.C. Poindexter was a member of a literary society. His membership occurred while a student at Ohio State University. It is recognized that such societies were very popular at the turn of the century. It is from this popular extracurricular activity that that Poindexter originates in his thought of a social club. He got to witness the first initiation as the club's advisor.
So, one hundred plus years later, the 10th house of Alpha, Kappa Chapter celebrates its centennial with the installation of an 10-ft Egyptian- inspired obelisk. The dedication, occurred on the eve of Founders' Day, December 3, 2011, as a part of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.'s, international celebration.
